All tied up at Bates

Well, getting the kids up and ready for school in the morning is HECTIC, but there are some benefits.

Was anyone awake this morning at 6:50 a.m. and listening to KOAA channels 5 and 30 when a story was broadcast about an incident at a District 11 school...wherein a Bates Elementary School teacher was placed on paid administrative leave yesterday for binding a 3rd grade student's legs together?

WHAT IN THE HELL?

I haven't seen or heard a word about it in the paper or on the news since, but I repeat:

WHAT IN THE HELL?

Jeez.

  2. Listening to the interview, I am struck by how seriously the district employee regards the teacher's rights and how the employee passively makes the child the bad guy for even discussing what he had experienced. Anyone want to take bets on the final disposition of this issue? I say teach either returns to same classroom at Bates or is made a special assignment teacher on some b.s. pet rock endeavor. FO SHO she doesn't lose her job. For Pete's sake, she didn't kill anyone, just humiliated and caused physical discomfort to a child for what sounds like about three hours. Maybe the kid should be allowed to decide an appropriate punishment for the teacher? Make her wear five rubber bands around her uncovered legs (boy had on shorts), to include walking in the hallway during a schoolwide evacuation so more than just her class could see what was being done to him. AND finally, did no other teachers see what was underway and pull Mrs. Herbst aside and caution her that maybe she had gone too far? Does Bates have a principal? Poor kid, poor family. Every facet of their lives will be dissected in defense of this teacher. Wonder what's wrong with public education today? Here ya go!

  3. OUTRAGEOUS!! I haven't been so angered by a story since the mosque. I could not get to the student interview but would very much like to see that. I, in fact, would not have known anything about this story had I not read yours. I wanted very much to comment on the remarks made by 'seriously' http://www.newsfirst5.com/news/d-11-teacher-accused-of-binding-child-s-legs/...I often put my children in a carseat and will continue to do so, but rubberbanding them or allowing someone else to...HELL NO. My child does have adhd but I cannot even think of what I would do if someone did that to him. The teacher should be fired. Immediately. Paid administrative leave...again I say OUTRAGEOUS.
