What-if moment

Here's a real what-if:

With all the hoopla about Jeff Crank of Americans for Prosperity, standing up during the Citizen's Comments portion of the weekly Colorado Springs School District 11 Meeting of the Education of the Board, and suggesting that the Master Agreement contract negotiations be opened...

...and with all the to-do about D11's Channel 16, its technical, audio-visual expertise, and its live broadcast of Board meetings at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday nights (re-broadcast on Saturdays and Sundays)...

(-- I guess I should say here...that is, Comcast Channel 16 --)

...and since not everyone subscribes to Comcast, but A LOT of folks have general internet access...

...and since the District already uploads internet podcasts of the big show after that meeting's minutes have been accepted...

(big innovative idea drum-roll please:)

WHY NOT JUST SIMULCAST THE SHOW ON THE INTERNET.

Because then we would all already have seen and heard Mr. Crank for ourselves, rather than filtered through two weeks of spin, vitriol and hearsay.

And we'd have also seen a quite fetching Arachno-American woman address the Board regarding her thoughts on innovation.

But for some reason, we always have to wait until after the official meeting minutes are approved...and in this case, that means two weeks after the fact.

Why?...unless it's to give the District time and opportunity to edit scenes and airbrush obscenities from t-shirts.

Hey, District:

I'M NOT THE ONLY OBSESSIVE-COMPULSIVE DISTRICT 11 WATCHER WITHOUT CABLE OUT HERE, JONES-ING FOR FIRST RATE, SPELLBINDING ENTERTAINMENT, YA KNOW.

So...maybe you can consider it.

  1. Is his name really Crank?? That's appropriate.

  2. Well, I was there...and while I was a little distracted trying to figure out what to say when it was *my* turn before the Board, I don't recall him saying or doing anything agitative in the least.

I feel like this, Bill -- everything in the Master Agreement is on the table only once every sixteen years (every 32 years by some accounts). IT IS IMPORTANT that the stakeholders of D11 sit up and start paying attention NOW...so that *we* might avoid the types of crazy shuffle and costly upheaval that the D49 Board allowed to take place over in your neck of the woods.

  3. The agitation occurred with Crank's comments in the newspapers, on his radio show and mass e-mails and the counters by CSEA president Marshall and lawyer Cross. It appears that Crank, Marshall and Cross (how do you like that last name?) wanted to manipulate the negotiators and the public for their own ends.
